Because You Said Yes | October Round Up For Orphans Report

A Beacon of Light in the Himalayas

Buddhist prayer flags wave their welcome on every bridge, and crowded streets invite tourists with signs for places like Hotel Yak and Antrek Wilderness Expeditions. In the distance, snowcaps peek through clouds and waterfalls magically appear on hillsides of green. Manali, India, is known as a destination for mountainside treks and ecotourism. But for those who serve orphaned and vulnerable children, the village in the Himalayan mountains is home to a children’s home and school that continue to transform form lives through the power of hope.

House of Grace (Dar-Ul-Fazl) is a beacon of light providing complete care for more than 70 children of all ages, and Rainbow School offers quality education to more than 120 children in the village. Every child living at House of Grace, from toddlers to teens, calls the home their true family as they find sanctuary and restoration from trafficking and exploitation, abuse, and neglect. Creative expression is encouraged as the children learn about what it means to be designed in the image and likeness of God, and many are writers, musicians, artists, and poets. Most every member of the House of Grace family attends college, and it’s not uncommon to find adults returning to the home for visits and to mentor the young ones.

“I keep telling the children—I go to Delhi and I see so many children in the streets and I go to the villages and see so many children in shanties—and I remind them that God has brought us out into this place, His place,” shares Joy, the director of the home. As a child, she found refuge and belonging there. Now as the director, her desire is to ensure every child feels welcomed and safe. “He has blessed us with His blessings. He has changed our lives—and it is our calling to do the same. No matter our background, no matter our pain.”

Through your continued giving, children at House of Grace are receiving the essentials needed to thrive: physical, emotional, educational, and spiritual care.
